Stratified just means that in addition to overall masterpoint awards for that game, you can also win masterpoints by placing within your “strata”. In open games the strata usually are something like A = 1500+ masterpoints, B = 500 – 1499 and C = 0-499. In addition to open games, we have many limited games where the contestants must have less than 300 or 500 masterpoints. They would be listed on the schedule as Stratified 299’er Pairs or Stratified 499’er Pairs. Most games cost $6.00 but some special games cost $1.00 extra. The extra charge is taken directly by the ACBL and is used in some way to finance bridge growth such as the Junior Fund. These special games also award extra masterpoints.
I noticed a line on the schedule on some days that says STAC $. What does that mean?
STAC is short for Sectional Tournament at Clubs. The ‘$’ in our schedule means an extra charge, in most cases $1.00 which goes directly to the ACBL. The masterpoint awards are larger and in the case of a STAC, our results are emailed to the game’s director who will then determine overall places and awards.
